I'm on a boat.. and Cover Girl Classic review

First off let me just say - guess where I'm writing this. ON A BOAT!
That's right I'm on a boat mother-f******!
hehe I love that
song, but I actually am on a boat while writing this!

So i wanted to do this blog to review the Classic, i know i said i might do live blogging but the stupid link wouldn't work so I'm relying on the kindness of fellow youtubers to upload the routines. I must say a big thank you to gymnast7225, who has uploaded like everyone's routines!

Well here is a list of the results:

Congrats to Olivia Courtney.

She had a very solid performance although she isn't really getting that much credit for it, everyone is just talking about Nastia, Sam, Ivana, etc. I think part of the reason is that she isn't a praticularly exciting gymnast, well in my opinion. She doesn't have any wow skills really, she just goes along consistently hitting her average routines. She is still a great gymnast though but she doesn't have anything that makes her stand out yet.

I was really excited to see Ivana and see how she is doing in WOGA but she kinda disappointed me. I mean she still has great lines and I really like her new floor routine but she just seemed off. Maybe it was just nerves but I hope she can get it together for Nationals.

Wow Sam looks so much older and more confident and really pretty. Her vault as the same as ever and her beam was great, not as solid as it was but I know she is still getting back into training. She has almost confirmed that she will be doing a double arabian dismount at Nationals so I can't wait to see that! Suprisingly she hasn't put on any weight since the Olympics event though she took off all that time afterwards to heal her injury.

Nastia's routine was pretty much the same, little less solid and it was a pity about the watered down dismount. Her switch ring was not good though but well done to her for not falling off! Hope to see her even better at Nationals.

I can't believe Rebecca Bross is injured AGAIN! That poor girl has the worst look, I really wanted her to shine at the classic but I hear that she sucessfully petitioned to Nationals so I'm hoping to see more of her there. Her bars was very good besides the dismount. She gets such height on her releases and WOGA has taught her great lines. If she can stay injury-free I can see her becoming a star in this quadranieum, she has the big skills and power but she also has nice lines and flexibility. However I think she needs some different dance on floor.

Kayla Williams was very impressive. Her floor routine in particular!

She still needs to work on her dance and leaps, some of her splits aren't quite 180 but the tumbling is amazing. Almost stuck double layout, stuck double pike, a triple twist as a SIDE PASS and a beautiful stuck full-in double pike as a finish.

I know I havn't included everyone in this but havn't seen all the routines yet.

So I think the Classic was a bit flat to be honest but I know it is just like a warm-up for Nationals which is where the real showdown will be. Charloadams made this great promo for it and it really gets you excited and pumped up :)

She has many more amazing vids so you should definatly pop by her channel.

Also check out this great article about Marvin Sharp and Bridget and Sam -->

http://www.insidegymnastics.com/content/show/newsarticle.aspx?articleid=547&zoneid=1

He seems like a great coach and I can see there being competition between Sam and Bridget for the National title. They are both well capable of winning! Only 16 days! Can't wait! :)

Bye for Now,
Megs.

Updates..

So i know I say this all the time but I'm sorry for not posting recently!
Anyway I was thinking and I'm going to turn this into a more personal blog, don't get me wrong, I will still be posting about gym events and stuff  but also about my life :)

So here we go.

Well at the start of the I started back at gym. It was amazing to be back, it was quite tough getting back into it but it was so rewarding. I have lost a lot of skills, flexibility and strength but I'm working really hard over the summer to get them back! The annoying thing about Irish gymnastics is that it barely gets any money and no-one really cares about it. Also in our gym (and many others) you have to put out the equipment at the start of training and then put it away again at the end. It's really annoying and it eats up training time! Hopefully someday Irish gymnastics will improve.

Also I'm starting coaching in September! I cannot wait, it is going to be great, I've always wanted to co coaching!

I got a new phone today, my other one broke :( Its the LG KS360.
Here's a piccy -->

I think it's pretty slick if i do say so myself! I love the keyboard and it's really handy for going on twitter, facebook, etc.

Covergirl Classic is on today!

Yay! Can't wait to see Nastia back in action. Sadly she is only doing beam but I'm sure it will be spectacular anyway. Also looking forward to seeing Sam Peszek. I've always liked Sam and I've felt that she never got enough attention. Her gymnastics is incredible, double double on floor, double arabian off beam (not that I have seen it), back with full on beam straight into back pike. She has some amazing skills yet she is always kinda in the shadow of Nastia and Shawn. Although Shawn seems to have disappears from the gymnastics world completely so maybe it's Sammy time to shine. I mean check out this awesome beam routine from her at the 08 American Cup:

Need I say more?

I'm gonna try and watch the live streaming of the Classic, fingers crossed it works. If I do then I may do live blogging too! But if I can't watch it I hope that someone out there would be kind enough to put it on youtube for me...

Working on a few vids for youtube atm, don't really have any inspiration to finish them though. Have lots of ideas but I also have some requests to do and I'm finding them hard.

Speaking of youtube I have a new background so you should go check it out -

You know I wish I could change my name on youtube, when I first made my account I had no idea that I would be making videos one day. Just goes to show how times change.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Hmm I really don't know what to make of the film.

First off for those of you that don't know, I'm a Harry Potter nerd, I study the books religiously. They are my favourite books of all time. Although I have seen all the movies (even went to the premiere of the first and second one) they just don't compare to the books. Anyways I was really looking forward to this movie as the sixth book was my favourite and to be honest it was a bit of a let down, don't get me wrong, it was a great film but it wasn't as great as it could have been.So lets start off with the good things:

Tom Felton/Draco Malfoy

Whoa, Tom Felton deserves a medal or something for his performance, he really made the film for me. I mean I've always been a fan of Draco, I always like bad guys but in this movie I just wanted to give him a big hug and tell him it's okay. When he was about to kill Dumbledore and he was saying 'I have to do this' my heart was just breaking. It was soo incredible, oh and the bathroom scene where he was crying was so great too, I loved seeing this other side to Draco. Also he was pretty hot in this film, which is always plus ;)

Effects
Insane. nuff said.

Added Scenes
They were good, kinda random but they were well done. However I would have preferred for them to be left out and for other more important scenes put in.

Harry High on Liquid Luck
In my opinion the best acting Dan has ever done. One of my favourite scenes in the film, brilliantly done, couldn't have imagined it any better.

And the bad things..

Harry and Ginny
Relationship was not built up enough and the kiss? Ha, what kiss?

Ron and Hermione
It was too obvious that they liked each other. In the book there is always something there but you never quite know for sure that they definitely like each other.

The Ending
Way too rushed. Dumbledore's death wasn't built up enough either, I didn't feel anything watching the film yet when I read the book I was crying my eyes out. No funeral either.

Not Enough Memories
Hello only two memories? Wtf? They should have at least put in the one about the Gaunt family.

No Fight
Why did they take out the fight? I was really looking forward to that, the one in the seventh film better be amazing!

I think that overall the film, as part of a series, was quite good but the film on it's own was weak. I also don't think it felt like a film itself, it felt like it was just a prequel to the next one and that they are saving all the great stuff for the last two.

Anyway I will stop blabbering on now!

Will post again soon..

Comments are always appreciated :)

Love Megs.

COngrats Shawn :)

Shawn wins Dancing With the Stars!
Good for her. I didn't really follow it that closely but I'm glad she won!
Wonder what she is going to do now..will she go back to gym or go on to something else?

Not much news in the gym world at the moment. I suppose things are always slow after the Olympics. Can't wait for the US Nationals. I really want to see Nastia's new routines and I want to see Sam's double arabian off beam! Wish it would hurry up. :(

Nastia Will Be Back

Check out this new interview with Nastia for Inside Gymnastics -->

http://www.insidegymnastics.com/content/show/newsarticle.aspx?a=503&z=1&page=1

It's great! It really shows the passion and commitment to the sport! She is my idol, I cannot wait to see her new routines and new skills!

Why won't Nationals come quicker?

:(

Way to Dominate

Wow the USA completely owned that competition against Germany. They won the team and the first five places in the AA. Nice job ;)

The finals score for the teams was USA 232.400 points and Germany 219.700. USA also had the top scores on every event.

The All-Around results were:
1. Bridget Sloan, USA, 59.550
2. Corrie Lothrop, USA, 56.500
3. Mackenzie Caquatto, USA, 56.400
4. Olivia Courtney, USA, 55.950
5. Bridgette Caquatto, USA, 55.800
6. Kim Bui, Germany, 55.750
7. Mattie Larson, USA, 55.650
8. Anja Brinker, Germany, 55.250
9. Susann Herbst, Germany, 54.000
10. Elisabeth Seitz, Germany, 53.250
11. Desiree Baumert, Germany, 51.850
12. Katja Roll, Germany, 51.250

I'm really glad Bridget won, although I wanted Mattie Larson to do better, I think she may have fallen off bars or something because her score there was only 12.400!

Way to dominate ;)

In other news Leinster beat Munster in the rugby 25-6! Yay! Now they're off to the Heineken Cup Final, Can't Wait!

Okay I know its been waaay too long!
I'm sorry :( I recently got my tonsils out and I have been really sick but I'm going to update this as much as possible now!

2008 American Cup

Jordyn Weiber wins - shocker <>
Bit of a scam really. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of her but she is an incredible gymnast! A 2.5 on vault?! I mean she isn't even a senior! It's crazy! She is going to have to train carefully if she doesn't burn out.

I was kind of hoping Bridget would win because she really deserved a chance to shine! Her floor was great but I prefer the old choreography! I think her bars was a little underscored, they were great, the only thing that annoys me is how she always flexes her feet on her release moves.

Oh and I was really happy that Fabian Hambuechen won, especially after the rough time he had at the Olympics! Great to see that he is back and better than ever, he is one of my favourite gymnasts!

European Championships

Fabian wins again! YAY! :) I was soo happy when I heard he won! Hope to see him get a few more golds at Worlds this year!

Ksenia wins too! I love her, defiantly one of my favourite gymnasts! Her new floor routine is beautiful, she defiantly had the best choreography of everyone in the competition! I hope to see her do well at Worlds this year too.

It was also great to see Beth get golds on floor and bars, she really deserved them especially on bars. It must have been so frustrating doing the hardest bar routine in the World and coming 4th at the Olympics. Can't wait to see her at Worlds too!

Yes I know I have been mentioning Worlds a lot but I'm so excited because I'm going to see it for my birthday this year, I can't wait! It's going to be amazing! :)

In other news, I am starting back at gymnastics after taking a two-year break and I'm soo excited! I'm probably not starting back until September but it's better than nothing! I quit because I had loads of injuries and I didn't think it was worth all the suffering, but then I realised how much I missed it and then the Olympics really inspired me to continue! I can't wait, I have been training really hard at home to get back in shape and it is really helping! I hope to make the Irish National team and who knows maybe I will even make it to Worlds or the Olympics someday. I know it's a long shot but I dream BIG!

Anyway enough about me..be back soon :)

Austyn Fobes..?

Okay so I'm sorry I havn't been on in ages but I have been soo busy with gym, school and making montages that I just had no time!

> Not that there has been much to report on anyway.. :P

American Cup is coming up soon, I can't wait :)

Hopefully some kind person will post the whole thing on youtube so I can watch it.. hint hint ;);)

OMG news! Well its kinda just about me but still...

I might be going to see the 2009 World Championships!!

Ahh I can't wait!

I really hope Nastia goes, she is my idol :)

Oh I have new montage of her on youtube, watch it here ... please? :)

I really like it so no mean commys please!

Oh yeah anyway, back to the whole point of this blog, so I was on youtube and I come across Ashleyakaflippers montage called Shawn Johnson and Austyn Fobes. JUST LIKE THAT ( Its great, you should check it out, just click here ) Anyway we all know Shawn is amazing and all but this girl Austyn is great too!

Hey!

Okay this is just a quick blog but I was wondering does anyone have any tips on how to make your back more flexible? I really need to become more flexible for gym so any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

2008 - highs and lows

Okay so 2009 is here. Its the end of an amazing year and I thought I would share my highs and lows of the years with you guys!

Beth Tweedles's bars

Wow I was so impressed with her bars. I am usually not a big fan as she can be pretty sloppy but I'm glad she went for her hardest routine. I really wanted her to get a medal but she handled it so well, she was just shrugged it off. She showed great sportsmanship and I hope to see her in the 2009 Worlds.

Beckie Downie AA

I was really happy for Becky, coming 12th in the AA! That is amazing and the best ranking a British gymnast has ever gotten! I think with a little more training she could be one of the best in the world. I'll be rooting for her in 2012!

Steliana Nistor Retiring

Until the Beijing Olympics this year I was never really a fan of Nistor's gymnastics but during the Olympics I really grew to like her. I like the way she doesn't let anything shake her, she just carries on like nothing happened. She is a great gymnast and has some super-hard skills like a full on beam and a double layout on floor. I have to admit I'm sad to see her go, she was a great leader for her team and she was so tough!

Shayla's broken leg

I was devastated when I heard that Shayla broke her leg at the ranch. I love Shayla and I really wanted her on the team. She is such a great gymnast and I like the way she shows her personality when she performs. I'll be sad to see her leave elite gymnastics.

Shawn and Nastia being real friends

Okay so since Shawn has come onto the scene there has been a lot of speculation about Shawn and Nastia 'hating' each other. But I think that they actually are great friends, I mean I know Shawn really wanted the AA gold but she still went up to Nastia and gave her a hug when she lost. I think are genuine friends even though they compete against each other.

Ksenia Semyonova

I actually love this gymnast! She is such a cutie and she is amazing! I was really happy when she got 4th in the AA, although I wanted her to get a medal. I hope she continues on till 2012. I think if she gets a higher A-score on beam, bars and floor and she gets a DTY on vault she could win.  I cant wait to see her in the 2009 Worlds.

Nastia winning the AA

Wow, what a moment this was for gymnasts everywhere. I cried when she got her medal. I was just so happy that she won. She is such a fighter, after everyone doubting her in 2007 she came back and kicked everyone's asses. She is amazing! I love her lines and her flawless execution, I just love her!

Bridget Sloan's performance at the Olympics

Although it went very unnoticed, does anyone else think that Bridget performed amazingly at the Olympics? She didn't cave into the pressure or make any major mistakes in any of her routines, yet no-one noticed. Its sad! I love her floor routine, I know she doesn't have the hardest tumbling but I the dance and she really performs her routine, you know what I mean?

Uneven bars Event Final

Possibly the most nerve racking and close event final ever. It was amazing. Gymnasts have defiantly raised their game when it comes to uneven bars. Almost all the gymnasts had 7 A scores which is incredible! To be honest I wanted Nastia to win. I am a huge fan of her gymnastics but I also wanted Beth Tweddle to medal because she really deserved it.

Anna Pavlova's 0 on vault

I couldn't believe it when they gave her a 0, I was just as confused as everyone else till they explained. It was so unfair, she could have meddled if she hadn't got the 0! I can't believe she had an amanar, she had really bigged up her difficulty and when she landed the 2nd vault I thought she had it in the bag. I was sooo upset for her!

Alicia's Olympics

This poor girl just doesn't get a break. I was in shock when she fell off the beam and to fall on your mount is just the worst thing ever but she nailed the rest of her routine so I was really proud of her for that. Then on floor you could see that she was still thinking about the fall and she falls again. You could see that she just couldn't believe it, like everyone else. I was so proud that she handled everything after Beijing so well though. I will miss her. She always had character and personality.

Cheng Fei and her Olympics

Cheng Fei is a fabulous gymnast. I felt bad for her when she fell in the team finals but at least they still got the gold. But in her event finals I really felt sorry for her. She could have gotten gold in both events if she hadn't fallen. Although I felt bad for her falling I don't think she should have got the bronze on vault. Alicia should have got it, you shouldn't get a medal if you fall.

Sandra Izbasa's Floor routine

Wow! wow wow wow wow! She was incredible! She completely nailed her routine and she really deserved it. It was great for Romanian gymnastics too, considering they were supposed to be losing their legacy of great gymnasts. I hope she goes for the 2009 Worlds.

Nastia's Switch Ring

Okay I know this is kinda random but this is my favorite skill ever. I love how Nastia performs it too. It is such a gorgeous skill and I really want to learn it but my back isn't flexible enough yet.

Jiang Yuyuan's floor routine

I love this routine. Its so fun and exciting to watch, she really puts her personality into it. Its a great change from some of the robotic routines that you see. Plus she has like five great tumbling passages, which is crazy for such a small gymnast. If she can get her amanar consistent then she may be big competition in this quad.

The Whole Age Controversy

Were they of age? Were they not? Who knows? I for one don't think they are. I know everyone is saying that everyone is different and people grow at different times and that the Chinese tend to be small anyway but although their height is part of it, I just think that their faces look young. Like take Sam, Shawn and Bridget, they are the youngest on the US team but put them next to the Chinese gymnasts and they look years older. And no I don't think that the US are sore losers because they are concerned about this, if the gymnasts aren't of age then its not fair, they should stick to the rules. However I am not saying that it is the girls fault, they are just doing what they are told and I am not saying that they aren't great gymnast - they are amazing, that's why they won! But we will never know the truth I suppose.

Shawn living up to her greatness

She went into the Olympics as the favorite. She had a ton of pressure on her shoulders and she didn't disappoint. Okay so she didn't get the AA gold but the silver is still amazing! Plus she got the team silver and the floor silver and the beam gold! I really wanted Nastia to get the gold but then when I saw how happy she was I realised that I was happy that she got it. She really deserved it. I didn't realise how much not getting the AA gold had affected her and the image of her about to burst into tears when she realised that she had got the silver was so sad because you never see Shawn upset. I  watched this amazing montage of Shawn Johnson's Olympic journey by Ashleyakaflipper on youtube. You should watch it here.

Well anyway they are my thoughts on 2008..what do you think?
